Furthermore, systems developed in the Quantified Self (QS) tradition,
i.e. systems designed to help people track and monitor their own lives (Lupton, 2016), are regarded as being highly compatible with gamifica- tion (Whitson, 2013), with Fitocracy(r),4 a QS fitness app, being one fa- mous example.
Students indicated which of two topics (being either Internet of Things or Quantified Self) they preferably worked on for their assign- ment.
Furthermore, each team was assigned a topic-related name (namely the IoT Blues or the IoT Blacks, for students working on Internet of Things (IoT); or the QS Greens or the QS Reds, for students working on Quantified Self (QS)), logo and separate dedicated Google+ Community in order to strengthen the bond between in-groups.
